Nursing Home with Community Events Functions
Location: Dashilan community, Beijing, China
Time: Sep.2017- Nov.2017
Studio Critic: Wenjie Lin, Shuhei Aoyama
Aging is a pressing issue in both China and Japan, prompting the need for inclusive and multifunctional community infrastructure. This project integrates a community nursing home, an international exchange facility (hotel) for Chinese and foreign visitors, and a multi-age community center designed to serve residents of all ages and abilities.
The design features spaces for daily care, leisure, and cultural engagement. The community activity center includes accessible facilities and venues for Beijing Opera rehearsals and performances, helping to preserve and revitalize local traditions. By combining essential services with cultural programming, the project creates a vibrant public space where local residents can enjoy a peaceful daily life, while international visitors gain insight into Chinese culture and community living. The result is a socially inclusive environment that fosters interaction, understanding, and a stronger sense of belonging.
